Char koay teow
Fried flat noodles. With cockles, eggs, bean sprouts, and prawns.
There are various versions.
The more famous ones are in Penang.
Singapore has a ‘wet’ version.
Locals love it.
Penang’s version:
Nasi Briyani
Again, various versions.
Both the local Malays and Indians love it.
Indians love it more. Sweet and a little spicy.
Penang’s version:
Laksa
Noodles in spicy soup.
Chinese and Malay versions.
Even a few varieties in the Malay version.
Locals love it.

Tempe
Based on soy.
Various versions.
Indonesian and Malaysian.
Also a few varieties within Malaysia.
Selangor’s version was once extremely popular.
Even the Indian loved it.
Not anymore.
