Malaysia.
Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA).
Ineffective.
Allegedly corrupt.
Very aligned, politically. Under the thumb of the ruling party.
PLANS
1. Plan afoot to change its name to Malaysian Commission on Anti-Corruption (MCAC).
A crap is a crap by any name.
2. Plan to grow it from the present 2,000 staff to 7,000.
More clout to investigate the cash-strapped opposition, dissidents, and protesters
3. MCAC to have power to hire and fire its own personnel
Wonder who can fire the head honcho…
4. To be assisted by eminent Malaysians.
As eminent as the Muhammad Muhammad Taib and Khir Toyo types
5. Annual report to be scrutinised by a parliamentary committee
Made up of members of the ruling party
6. Separation of powers between institutions of government
Still reporting to the Prime Minister
7. Plan that the MCAC be independent.
Errr… you may start with the sacking of the dependent, gutless head of the ACA
For these crap, a healthy dose of scepticism is needed.
