COST OF SECOND PENANG BRIDGE UP AT RM4.58B, SAYS UEM


The cost of the Second Penang Bridge project has escalated to RM4.58 billion from RM3.6 bilion of its original cost, according to UEM Group Bhd.

In a prudently cobbled contract, the government would have required a “lump sum” offer, not allowing for variation of cost in the event of fluctuation of prices in goods, materials, freight, etc.

Here we find that the contractor has been given so much leeway, that the risk of price fluctuation falls on the government shoulders (by extension, the rakyat’s)

Isn’t this a clear case of UMNOPUTERAS protecting its vested interests?
